Vietnamese athletics flew high at SEA Games 29 with 17 gold medals, 11 silver medals and six bronze medals.

In 1989 Vietnam returned to the SEA Games arena.

At the 2017 SEA Games, Thai athletics participated with 80 athletes.

However, Thailand failed to plan and only won nine gold medals when the athletics event ended at Bukit Jalil Stadium on August 26.

“This is the first time since Vietnam returned to the SEA Games arena that we have taken the top position.

According to Mr. Thuy, football or athletics and other sports should not use Thailand as a benchmark to measure themselves against.

Vietnamese athletics overthrew Thai domination

Tu Chinh dominated the women’s short distance with three gold medals in her first SEA Games appearance.

At the 29th SEA Games, the feat of Vietnamese athletics was so impressive that when the curtain ended, Malaysian fans and athletes from other countries came to ask to take pictures with them.

“This achievement is due to the fact that Vietnamese athletics quickly prepared the next class.

With the achievement of 17 gold medals, track and field surpassed seven medals compared to the target set before the SEA Games.

“I made a plan, knew there was a door in athletics, no surprises.

The incident that Mr. Thuy mentioned was Truong Phuong’s withdrawal from participating in the 2017 SEA Games. The athlete, whose parents are Vietnamese but living in the US, although only a student, is very strong in throwing, was sought by Mr. Thuy.

“I registered Truong Phuong on the initial preliminary list to attend SEA Games 29, even taking care of where he will play in the future, with good remuneration.

The head of Vietnamese athletics said he did not have much time to celebrate surpassing the Thai for the first time in history.

“My dream is to have a very good ASIAD gold medal.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese athletes are extremely excited to overthrow Thai domination.
