Vietnamese athletics flew high at SEA Games 29 with 17 gold medals, 11 silver medals and six bronze medals.

In 1989 Vietnam returned to the SEA Games arena.

At the 2017 SEA Games, Thai athletics participated with 80 athletes.

However, Thailand failed to plan and only won nine gold medals when the athletics event ended at Bukit Jalil Stadium on August 26.

“This is the first time since Vietnam returned to the SEA Games arena that we have taken the top position.

The incident that Mr. Thuy mentioned was Truong Phuong’s withdrawal from participating in the 2017 SEA Games. The athlete, whose parents are Vietnamese but living in the US, although only a student, is very strong in throwing, was sought by Mr. Thuy.
