Ambassador Sandeep Arya said yoga is an ancient practice method, originating from a Sanskrit word meaning `unity`, referring to the unity of a person’s body, mind (or awareness).

Physically, yoga improves physical health through flexibility of body parts, nervous system and blood circulation.

Yoga also allows people to connect with the surrounding environment in a pure, full way and thereby become a source of positive energy for the world.

Nine years ago, the United Nations recognized yoga as a comprehensive approach to health and life.

This year, the Indian government has chosen the theme for International Yoga Day: Yoga because the world is one family, originating from an ancient Indian saying `Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam` (The world is one family).

The logo of this year’s International Yoga Day represents the message `Yoga for harmony and peace`.
