In the announcement issued on July 24, businesses, schools and markets in Jiangcheng district, Yunnan province (China) will close on July 26 and 27 to organize comprehensive testing.

Yunnan province has recorded a sudden increase in the number of infections in recent days, originating from Myanmar, a country that is struggling to prevent a worrying wave of pandemic outbreaks.

On July 24, the Yunnan Provincial Health Authority reported 5 new cases, all of which were citizens who had returned from living in Myanmar.

Chinese health officials also continuously recorded cases of infection in fully vaccinated people in Guangdong province and Nanjing city in Jiangsu province.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper on July 23 quoted the Nanjing Health Authority as saying that as of July 22, there were 16 new confirmed cases and 12 other people with test results.

Dr. Yang Yi from Southeast University in Nanjing and deputy head of Jiangsu province’s Covid-19 patient treatment department, said all of the above cases were vaccinated, except for one person under 18 years old.

`These are all mild cases. Although they have not been infected for long, according to what we observed in Guangdong and Ruili of Yunnan province, a person who has been vaccinated can still be infected. Although

And so, according to him, `this shows that the vaccine is still protecting people and we encourage people to take precautions and continue to wear masks even after vaccination.`

Mr. Ma Wenjun from the  Guangdong Center for Disease Control and Prevention also said that people should continue to get vaccinated because they help prevent severe disease, even death.

According to virologist Jin Dong-yan at the University of Hong Kong, infections in vaccine recipients demonstrate the need to maintain protective measures and promote `revaccination as soon as possible`.

In Nanjing city with 9 million people, government officials launched a mass screening campaign.
